Fall prevention is a multifaceted issue. Falls result from physical surroundings; frayed rugs, missing tiles in your floor, poor lighting, and many other things.. We do an assessment to determine your risk of falls. Starting with your physical reactions to getting up from your chair, to rolling out of bed… Do you feel dizzy or lightheaded? Oftentimes, this is one of the first signs of being at risk for falling. Do you touch the wall as you walk down the hall, or perhaps use furniture as leverage to get where you want to go? It may be that assistive devices are needed, or an exercise plan to build up your strength to transition from sitting to standing, to walking. All of these will be considered in conjunction with your physician to avoid the first fall or recover afterward.
