City Of Los Angeles To Incorporate AI In Its Operations

City of Los Angeles to Incorporate AI in its Operations

According to Los Angeles Daily News, in early January, Los Angeles’ city council approved a motion to start integrating AI technologies into city operations — presumably for more seamless, effective operations.

It is relatively uncharted territory for the city, however. The roll-out of the technologies is currently just in the infant stage. The city and its people wait with open arms, however. Not only could LA benefit from AI technologies, but it could also benefit from any technological upgrades in general. This whole thing is interesting to see. Exciting, even!

One Deloitte article states, “With a clear vision, proper infrastructure and data governance in place, cities should be expected to embrace digital transformation and leverage cloud computing and the Internet of Things, design new operating models that foster integration between inter-dependent departmental services, and automate intelligent operations further using AI – fostering better quality of services, and greater efficiency and effectiveness.

But cities can go even further. We see cities like Dublin and Singapore, among others, creating a Digital Twin – a dynamic digital replica of their physical assets and environments and their interdependencies – for urban planning purposes, and using machine learning to predict future events and trends” (City Operations Through AI).

Predicting future events and trends? Creating digital replicas of cities to better plan and make decisions? Sounds like a great idea!

AI in cities
Serve Robotics

Serve Robotics is famous for its food-delivering robots that rolled out in LA in 2023. You even see these robots from time to time, in certain parts of town delivering UberEats orders. The technology has been successful, too. This is just one of many ways AI can be utilized in town.

A move toward AI could improve access to different services amongst all communities.

Having AI technologies that complement existing technologies sounds like the future of our world. Meant not to replace, but more so be complementary.

And LA City Council recognizes this.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this plays out. AI has the power to be a transformative force. With the potential to revolutionize the way our cities operate, AI is certainly an important factor to how cities will grow in the future. As urban populations continue to grow, the demand for efficient and sustainable solutions becomes paramount. Moreover, AI could make our cities smarter, more responsive, and conducive to a higher quality of life.

Some ways AI could help:

  • Smart Infrastructure Management
  • Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
  • Enhanced Public Safety
  • Faster Programs for Citizens
  • Healthcare and Public Health (Excited to see how AI could improve Home Health Care!)

Nonetheless, let’s embrace this technology with open arms. (carefully, of course).
